LOG HOME BUILDERS
I was the contractor for this log home that was completed in November 2002. I am now a licensed contractor starting a business to build log homes. There are several types of homes you may choose from. The one pictured is made from "dovetail logs" with a chink groove milled into them (white stripes) which is a 12 x 6 in. rectangular log before the tongue and groove is milled into it. Other styles of logs are "round" inside walls and out, and "D-type" which are flat on the inside walls and round outside. This home has a truss roof with vaulted ceilings in the picture below but you can also use a beamed roof for either wood or drywall between the beams.
I would prefer to build the kit only and have the owner contract the rest of the work but I can be flexible in all phases of construction. The cost to assemble a kit and supply all materials to put the logs together for a 30 x 50 home would be around $15,000. A full basement on a 30 x 50 ft. (1500 sq. ft.) foundation with a beamed ceiling allows for a 30 x 30 ft. (900 sq. ft.) loft. The cost of a 2400 sq. ft. closed-in log shell (outside walls) with a shingled roof, windows and doors should be around $50,000. There is still a considerable amount of time and money to be invested at that point including wiring and plumbing, finishing the inside, etc., but a log home has the kind of comfort that will last for generations.
